Stefano Pioli said Lazio have developed a “winning mentality” after conquering Torino 2-0 to go third.

The Aquile notched up a fifth consecutive victory and are now three points clear of Napoli in the last Champions League spot.

“This was a great show of our maturity, as we took on a tough opponent, allowed them few chances and struck at the right time,” Pioli told Sky Sport Italia.

“We want to go forward. I think we’ve gained a winning mentality, built thanks to positive results which gave us confidence.

“This is an excellent group of players and we know that in difficult moments they can change the game.

“How far can we go this season? We just look at the next game, as we know how difficult Serie A can be, so there’s no point getting ahead of ourselves.”

Felipe Anderson netted twice today, meaning he has eight Serie A goals for the season.

“In the first half he didn’t have much freedom of movement and I didn’t like his performance, but he did very well after the break,” confessed Pioli.

Torino closed up and in these balanced encounters you need the moment of magic from an individual. Felipe Anderson is an excellent player and can do a lot better, so he needs to go through this growth process at Lazio.

“I recall Cristiano Ronaldo’s career path and he became a great player thanks also to difficult moments, just like Felipe Anderson.

“I think with this humility he can become unmarkable for opponents.”
