Andrea Barzagli felt “good sensations” in his first Serie A start since mid-May as Juventus won 1-0 in Palermo.

The defender hadn’t played at all since the World Cup in Brazil due to a series of Achilles tendon problems, but made his comeback as a substitute last week and today started at the Stadio Barbera.

“It was difficult to spend so long off the field, but I am happy with the result and my performance,” Barzagli told Sky Sport Italia.

“I felt good sensations. The five minutes against Sassuolo were a very emotional experience, while today I started in a venue where few opponents have won, but everyone helped me feel very confident.

“Besides, with Leo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini in a three-man defence, we know the movements off by heart.”

When asked if he was angling for a start against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Wednesday, Barzagli shrugged off the question.

“I was out for eight or nine months, that’s a long time, so we’ll have to see how I feel over the next few days.

“I am not going to kid myself, as I am just trying to get back in shape and be at the disposal of the squad.”
