Former Milan Coach Carlo Ancelotti has been backed by Real Madrid President Florentino Perez, at least for now.

Los Merengues are one point from the top of La Liga, and have qualified for the Quarter-Finals of the Champions League, but defeat to Schalke on Tuesday brought protests from the Bernabeu crowd.

“We are the most critical and demanding, because this is the biggest club in the world,” Perez said in a specially-convened Press conference.

“[However] the attacks on our Coach and players are excessive. The club has the utmost confidence in Ancelotti, who will remain our Coach, the best one we could have.

“All the players have the support of the club.

“These people, within a year, won what we wanted for years [a 10th Champions League], by playing wonderful football – for many the best ever – and we must be proud.

“We continue toward our goals with calm and unity. Respectful and constructive criticism are a strength, but we can’t always be at our best, that’s normal.

“We have all the affection and confidence possible for the Coach and the squad.”

However, when asked about next season, Perez was less commital on Ancelotti’s future.

"I have said, what I've said.” the President replied cryptically.
