Torino's Matteo Darmian believes Zenit St Petersburg can be defeated in the Europa League Last 16 with 'grit and heart'.

The Granata are up against the Russian powerhouse in tomorrow's Round of 16 first leg, and the full-back has admitted that their adversaries are the favourites.

“They are a quality team and we'll have to make good the gap with grit and heart,” Darmian has said in today's Press conference.

“Tomorrow we'll play our game and we'll see how it all ends. I don't want to say what our odds are.

“We know we're up against a great team, with some excellent individual players, so it will be key for us to keep up our focus and play the game the way that we practiced for it.

“Against Udinese we had a little lapse,” said the 25-year-old. “We'll have to learn from that, so that we don't repeat the same mistakes as the championship continues.”

In closing, the Italian international discussed his own tactical preferences.

“My favourite role is on the right wing because it lets me make the best of my [dominant] foot, but I'm at the team's service and I can adapt to other positions on the pitch.”
