“This game means a lot because we are targeting the same objectives and are both going through a good period of form,” said Pioli in his Press conference.

“We both like to play attacking football and take the initiative rather than be passive. The Viola are further ahead because this is their third year together.

“The table is tight up there and we have to focus only on our own results. We have 13 games left to do our best.”

This will also be a showdown between two of the most spectacular young talents in Serie A, Felipe Anderson and Salah.

“They are important players, but the collective always wins over individuals. We need to play with a lot of quality.

“Felipe Anderson is quick and unpredictable. Salah has extraordinary pace and is capable of turning a match on its head. We are prepared to face these challenges.

“In this season we laid solid foundations for the future with a good mixture of youth and experience. There’s a long way to go. Fiorentina have been on that path for three years.

“We still need to work out how to control the game without always going a mile a minute. When we learn to control ourselves and control the space, then we can do better.”

Stefano Mauri remains in doubt due to a toe injury, but Pioli sees the midfield battle being decisive tomorrow.

“This will be a fundamental aspect of the game between two teams who start moves from deep. The three-man midfield will be important.

“Antonio Candreva suffered a knock against Palermo, but he’s looked good over the last few days and I think he’s ready to play tomorrow.”
