“This will be a very difficult game against a great team, so tough to get a positive result. However, want to do well against a big club like Napoli, a side that sits in front of us in the table. That would be an important boost for us,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

This appointment comes after a surprise home defeat to Fiorentina and ahead of Thursday’s Europa League clash with Wolfsburg, so will Mancio rest players?

“It is possible I’ll change a few elements. Mauro Icardi is available and if he’s in good shape, then he can start.

“Apart from the performance against Empoli, which didn’t satisfy me in the slightest, I think the team always improved gradually and consistently. I think some of our defeats were unlucky.”

Walter Mazzarri said recently that if he had not been fired, Inter would be in third place at the end of the season.

“Everything is possible and I have no proof that wouldn’t be the case, but then it’s tough to know what would’ve happened,” replied Mancio.

A spot in the Champions League looks increasingly unlikely, but Mancini has high hopes for the future of Inter.

“We are working now to guarantee results at the end of this term. Inter must target the Scudetto next season.

“I think the teams ahead of us feel more certain because they have been working together for longer. This can make the difference, but it’s just a matter of time for us.

“For example, against Fiorentina we lost a game undeservedly, because we were never dominated by them. We had many scoring opportunities and didn’t allow the Viola much room to attack.”

The Nerazzurri picked up Xherdan Shaqiri, Lukas Podolski and Davide Santon in January, but were also close to current Fiorentina sensation Mohamed Salah.

“It’s true, Salah had thought about us and there was a concrete possibility. I spoke to him on the phone. Then things went differently, but he was an option for us, that’s for sure.

“We knew Chelsea wanted Cuadrado, so we couldn’t give them a player in exchange the way Fiorentina did.”
