Palermo striker Paulo Dybala has seemingly ruled out playing for the Italian national team, saying he wants to play with Lionel Messi.

The 21-year-old star of the Rosanero has an Italian passport and would eligible as an Oriundo, but his aspirations are of a different nature.

“My dream is to wear the colours of the national team of my own country, Argentina, and I'll do everything I can to make this happen,” he said in an interview with Argentinian radio channel Radio Belgrano.

“I heard about an interest by [Italy Coach Antonio] Conte but nobody ever contacted me officially.

“I could play with [Barcelona striker Lionel] Messi in the national team. I'm a number 9 [a poacher] but if necessary I can play in support of another striker.

“I like to run for the team and help out the defence if necessary.”

Dybala also said that he was open to changing clubs in favour of the Blaugrana.

“People here are cordial, just like in Argentina. But I'd be willing to swim to Barcelona if they called me.

“After all, I'd just have to cross the Mediterranean!”
