Giampiero Ventura said Torino are now “mature” after a tough start and studied Napoli to get tonight’s win.

The Coach had never previously beaten Napoli in his career, let alone after becoming the first Italian team to beat Athletic Bilbao at the San Mames on Thursday.

“The satisfaction is that, as long as we had the strength, we played as a real team against Napoli. We played a difficult game against Athletic just over 48 hours earlier.

“We played around 70 minutes very well, then between tension and fitness levels we paid a price for that, but remained sharp enough to hold our lead,” Ventura told Sky Sport Italia.

“Including the Europa League it was our 14th consecutive positive result. I have to compliment this team for achieving these results despite many problems.

“We were ready to face Napoli whether they’d be more aggressive or sit back and wait to go on the counter. I wasn’t surprised, as they sat back in their last two games.

“We had just 24 hours to prepare for this game, but my squad paid great attention and they’re mature enough to handle these situations.

“Obviously when you start with a whole new group who weren’t accustomed to certain things, it takes a little time. When everyone commits to the tactical cause, it all becomes simpler.

“To bridge the gap from the bigger clubs, you have to be organised and be able to read the spaces whether attacking or defending.

“I think the squad is now mature enough to start working towards becoming great.”

Kamil Glik scored his sixth goal of the Serie A season, surprising Napoli on a corner.

“We do a lot of work on set plays and creating space for players like Glik. It’s no coincidence he scored six goals and they were almost all identical. He’s great in the air, but his team-mates also work to create the space for him.

“We study these things and the way our opponents play too, so we try to be in control of set plays.”
