Pippo Inzaghi tried to see the “glass half-full” after Milan’s draw with Chievo and explained his Alessio Cerci approach.

“I thought we tried to play and certainly did better in the second half, creating chances with Honda hitting the woodwork and that counter three against two,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia after a 0-0 result.

“We need to be more clinical in attack, make the right final pass and take our chances, because it’s not easy to play against a Chievo side who put everyone in defence.”

The Rossoneri are without an away victory since mid-October and have never managed two consecutive Serie A wins this season.

“I look at the glass half-full, because it’s our second consecutive clean sheet, but then once again we lost two important players to injury and wasted scoring opportunities.

“I believe we’ve improved in our possession over the last two games, but we didn’t score and that’s the real regret today.”

Cerci was again only introduced in the closing stages and replaced injured Nigel de Jong, while Riccardo Montolivo also sustained a thigh problem.

“There were 10 minutes to go and it was a little risky, but we wanted to win. I put Bonaventura into midfield, as everywhere you put him he can do a job.

“It’s best to keep a substitution open for the final 15 minutes, as you never know if you’re going to lose someone to injury and be left with 10 men.

“We tried to use four attacking players, but unfortunately our midfielders are not in great shape after injury and a team requires balance. For the moment we’ll alternate them.

“Alessio can play as a support striker and could be a trequartista in better condition. It hurts me too that I leave out players like Cerci and Pazzini, but these are the circumstances right now.

“Alessio is a player I wanted and we’ll get the best out of him, but let’s not forget he barely played for six months, so needs time to find his form.

“We tried to score in every possible way tonight. I thought Mattia Destro had a great performance and worked hard for the team.”
