Rudi Garcia admits Roma’s draw with Parma was “negative,” so the fans are right to be disappointed.

The Giallorossi had the chance to go seven points clear of third-placed Napoli this weekend, but instead were held to a 0-0 result by the club at the bottom of the table.

“In the second half we played better and raised the tempo, but Parma played with everyone behind the ball and we couldn’t find the breakthrough to change matters,” Garcia told Sky Sport Italia.

“We were too slow to begin with and didn’t get many shots on target. It’s difficult to score if you don’t aim for the goal and that was our biggest problem.

“It’s a tough time for us and we had to play with some elements who weren’t in the best condition. Miralem Pjanic had to go home as well, though we are not using it as an alibi. We have to play better and should’ve beaten Parma today no matter the circumstances.”

Gervinho was thrown straight into the starting XI along with debutant Seydou Doumbia after their African Cup of Nations victory.
“I thought their enthusiasm from the trophy would be positive for the team. I couldn’t take them off because we didn’t score the opening goal earlier,” explained Garcia.

“The fans are disappointed, that’s normal, and so are we after a draw against the bottom club. We made a mistake and now have to give everything in the next game.

“Roma fans want to see us win. Compliments to Parma, as they never gave up and closed all the spaces.”

This evening Juventus visit Cesena and could end the weekend nine points clear at the top.

“Can Roma still challenge for the Scudetto? I think so yes. We mustn’t discuss the table right now, but the performances. We did better after the break and must learn to start games stronger.”
