The Aquile have been at the centre of controversy since Friday when President Claudio Lotito’s recorded phone call was released to the media.

Pioli refused to answer any questions on the matter, only telling reporters “we are accustomed to the media storm by now.

“I protested on Monday because the referee was awarding decisions only in one direction. We just want an equal, impartial referee who can do his work in the best possible way.

“Of course we still believe in football. If we thought there was something else behind it, we would change profession.”

That 1-0 defeat to Genoa was their second in a row, as Lazio also lost 2-1 at Cesena.

“This is a moment in which results are not going our way. We weren’t up to the task against Cesena, but for the rest we had the right spirit even when down to 10 men. We know that we have to be determined and concentrated.

“It’s true we have slipped out of the top five positions, but we can get right back in there. We’ll see where we are at the end of the season.

“We have lost too many games and perhaps a few extra draws would’ve been wiser, but our attitude is to always go for the victory.

“I saw the team very motivated and confident, which is why I am optimistic. I’d be worried if I saw disappointment or a different approach from my players.”

Federico Marchetti, Lorik Cana and Stefano Mauri are all suspended, joining the injured Senad Lulic, Bruno Pereirinha, Filip Djordjevic, Santiago Gentiletti and Michael Ciani.

Lazio squad for Udinese: Berisha, Strakosha, Guerrieri; Basta, Konko, Cavanda, De Vrij, Braafheid, Mauricio, Novaretti, Radu; Biglia, Candreva, Cataldi, Ederson, Ledesma, Onazi, Parolo, Felipe Anderson; Klose, Perea, Keita Balde Diao
