Vincenzo Montella felt Fiorentina’s 3-2 win over Atalanta was “deserved” and praised debutant Mohamed Salah.

“We had 18 shots on goal and played better than our opponents over the 90 minutes, so I’d say the victory was deserved,” Coach Montella told Sky Sport Italia.

“It was important that we got all three points by battling to the final whistle. I am happy for Alino Diamanti, who is improving physically, but of course I am not surprised by his form and quality.”

Salah made his debut for the Viola after arriving on loan with option to buy as part of the Juan Cuadrado move to Chelsea.

“He’s an unpredictable player, very talented and will get even better with time. There is always going to be an acclimatisation period for him to settle in.”

Fiorentina’s recent form has given them a huge boost in the race for European places.

“We have to look forward, always. It won’t be easy to qualify for the Europa League, as Sampdoria and Torino are also there on top of the usual suspects.

“We have to focus on improving our own results.”
