The touted heir to Andrea Pirlo was previously linked with Juventus’ French prodigy in an exchange deal that would have included striker Edinson Cavani too.

But the player's agent Donato Di Campli has rubbished the idea that Verratti could ever be used in such an exchange.

“I am always very explicit,” he confessed today to Tuttosport. “Verratti is not the type of player that can be exchanged on equal terms, even for someone like Pogba.

“You don't weigh him up like a plate of lentils. He has European class and he has to be paid the €50m that he is worth.

“I'm not of the idea that he should be sold, he is [PSG's] most important player. He is untouchable for the supporters and for public opinion.

“The French always find a defect in Italians who go abroad, they always look for something that doesn't work. But Marco is the apple of PSG's eye.

“The situation is being sweetened as it emerges. There are many important souls, champions with their own character and their own way of being. It takes some skill to handle them.

“PSG want to win even though they are wrestling with the Financial Fair Play regulations. They can't spend more than €60m per season, and this year they already did that for David Luiz.

“They can't afford a great transfer market without selling someone big, but they want to win.

“There are greater chances of seeing Marco and Paul together outside of Italy, but I don't know where.

“But I'll say this again: we cannot be exchanged. Verratti has his own identity and must not be associated to anyone.”
