Stefano Pioli reveals his half-time talk “was easy” as Lazio didn’t need more motivation against Milan.

The Aquile dominated the match, but went into the break 1-0 down and fought back for a 3-1 win. Pundits noted that Lazio were on the field a good five minutes before their opponents for the restart.

“The half-time talk was easy, as I didn’t need to tell the players anything,” Pioli told Sky Sport Italia.

“They could tell that they were dominating, creating chances and playing great football. So I just said continue like this and you’ll see it will end in a victory.

“I have to compliment my players and the fans for a very intense game that we absolutely deserved to win.

“I was always convinced that I had a strong squad that could play on a par with any opponent. We have quality, but above all have mentality, as giving up is not in our nature. That’s important.

“We wanted to get straight back on track, as we undeservedly lost against Napoli. It would’ve been a perfect game if not for Djordjevic’s injury. His ankle moved very badly and he’ll need x-rays, so we hope for the best.

“We should be satisfied with this result, but the season is far from over and we’ve done nothing yet.”

“Results were negative early on, as we arrived during a difficult period for the club, but I tried to show the players that with more concentration and growing consistently the results would come.

“Now we are finally able to beat the big clubs, which is what we’d been missing up until now. Results boost confidence, we have quality players and now the mentality too.

“We’re putting a lot into our daily work, so we’re aware that we’ve done everything possible to reach game day in the best condition.

“Our other great characteristic is humility. We must remain professional and have the utmost respect for our opponents, so let’s keep our feet firmly on the ground.”

Lazio will face Milan again on Tuesday evening in the Coppa Italia quarter-final, except that will be at San Siro.

“We want to win again on Tuesday and achieve the next great step of reaching the semi-final.”
