The Italian international had been linked to Milan for a return to Italy despite having only joined the German team last summer.

Whilst there was talk of a possible swap deal involving Stephan El Shaarawy, the forward has now denied the possibility of a transfer back to his home country just yet.

“Borussia Dortmund spent a lot of money for me and I want to repay their trust,” said the striker, as reported by Tuttomercatoweb.

“[Robert] Lewandowski is a world-class striker, but I'm not here to wipe out his memory. I came to contribute.

“Could I return to Italy? No, last summer I made a clear decision. Besides, I wouldn't leave the team in this moment of hardship.”
