The 35-year-old is a free agent and La Viola were considering the possibility of signing him back on a short-term deal, to cover their shortage of strikers in attack.

Questions surrounding his fitness prompted both parties to reportedly agree on a trial period during which the player would have trained with the club, under the supervision of Coach Vincenzo Montella.

However, today's edition of Tuttosport states that the agreement has been cancelled, as the relationship between the club and the player became increasingly frayed over the last few days. A

Apparently the Romanian was irritated by the club's lack of trust and the need for a trial period, while the club from Florence were unhappy with the player’s long silences and his unreachable attitude.

The result, say Tuttosport, is that Mutu will not be coming back after all.
