Genoa suffered a second consecutive defeat and Gian Piero Gasperini was again furious. “A refereeing error changed the game.”

The Grifone had gone 1-0 up away to Torino, but the result was turned around by two Kamil Glik goals in quick succession.

“It’s a shame that we missed this opportunity, though perhaps the team doesn’t have the right structure to compete at this level,” Gasp told reporters.

“It’s a shame that we missed this opportunity, though perhaps the team doesn’t have the right structure to compete at this level,” Gasp told reporters.

“At the end of the first half we were on our own in third place. Today we had a pretty clear penalty denied on Alessandro Matri, but then Genoa are accustomed to this sort of thing now.

“We know that we have to push beyond these incidents. We don’t feel penalised as such, but clearly a refereeing error changed the game.

“We had it all in hand, but also lost three players to injury and were naive conceding on two set plays. Then the refereeing error did the rest. This defeat hurts.”
