Roma President James Pallotta believes that the club's stadium plans won't be hindered by political scandal in the Italian capital.

The Giallorossi have been looking to move forward with plans to develop a new stadium in the Tor Di Valle area of the city, with the council set to vote on the plans on Tuesday.

A major corruption scandal surrounding the city council has erupted in recent weeks, though, with mafia gangsters and corrupt politicians accused of making millions through rigging government contracts and embezzling funds.

In total 37 people have been arrested on charges of extortion, corruption, money laundering and embezzlement, and it was put to Pallotta today that events could delay the club's intentions.

“The stadium? We’re expecting a vote in the coming days, specifically Tuesday,” Roma’s President told Radio Radio after meeting with the mayor of the city, Ignazio Marino.

“We’ve talked, and things seem to be fine. The citizens of Rome should be happy with the work we’re doing. Things are going well, and we hope that in 2017 Roma will have an incredible stadium for our fans.

“The mafia scandal? I heard about it. The mayor is doing a great job of cleaning things up, but there’s still a lot of work to do.

“I think Rome deserves better than what has been going on. I think this clean-up process will be good for the stadium and for the people of Rome.

“Will it slow down the process of building the stadium? Actually I think it will speed it up, there have been instances where people who are no longer involved in the government have been the ones slowing things down.

“It’s exactly the opposite of what people think, when I saw the news last week I was cheering.

"Not just for the stadium, what has happened will be good for Rome.”

The stadium is likely to be financed in part by a corporate sponsorship deal, similar to the one which saw English club Arsenal’s new stadium bear the name of Emirates airlines and Pallotta says he’s close to finding a sponsor.

“We’ve narrowed down the choices, and we hope to have a list of companies to deal with in the next two weeks.

“I’m not worried, everyone can see the steps we’re making in regard to the stadium.”
