“In all honesty, I did not expect to face Milan with a two-point lead in the table and us defending third place,” confessed Gasp in his Press conference.

“We haven’t got big heads, nor are we resting on our laurels, as third place just motivates us even more and we want to keep the spotlight on us.

“What we’ve achieved so far is not a fluke, but the result of hard work. Tomorrow’s game will be an important test of our real value.

“The Rossoneri are an excellent squad made up of important players, so it will be very difficult against them. Milan have real quality in attack and can shoot from all angles, while we are versatile and solid.”

It’s a return home for Stephan El Shaarawy, who is from nearby Savona and was promoted to the senior Genoa squad by Gasperini.

“It’s a shame he wasn’t able to grow up here at Genoa. He impressed me with his first touch and pace. Now he’s getting back in shape after his injury and I hope tomorrow isn’t his day!”

Genoa were knocked out of the Coppa Italia this week thanks to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Empoli.

“Pinilla is in doubt due to a knee problem.”
