Cesare Prandelli has been removed from his position as Galatasaray Coach, just five months after he left the Italy bench.

Reports this morning had indicated that the Italian was on the brink, and the Cim Bom have now confirmed Prandelli’s dismissal.

It was announced by Vice-President Abdurrahim Albayrak, although there is still no official statement released by the club.

The former Italy CT moved to Istanbul following the Azzurri’s group stage exit at this summer’s World Cup, but has failed to revive the fortunes of the Turkish giants.

Gala lie bottom of their Champions League group with just one point from five games, having conceded 15 goals in the process.

The club has lifted the Turkish Super Lig title on 19 occasions, but domestically too Prandelli has struggled. Trabzonspor walked away from the Turk Telecom arena with a 3-0 win on Saturday, with the Italian Coach criticised for omitting Wesley Sneijder from the starting lineup.

The defeat leaves Galatasaray third in the table behind Besiktas and arch-rivals Fenerbahce, and following a 2-0 defeat to Anderlecht in the Champions League last night the club’s hierarchy has decided to act.

Ex-Brazil and Parma goalkeeper Claudio Taffarel is expected to take charge on a temporary basis.
