Douglas Maicon’s extended period of recovery for Roma and his absence for CSKA Moscow is reportedly causing issue at the club.

The Brazilian full-back has not featured for the Giallorossi since mid-October, as he is suffering with a chronic inflamed tendon in his knee, which began in the build-up to the team’s Champions League encounter with Bayern Munich in Rome.

Maicon has since trained to an individual routine and opted against taking up a place on the team’s plane that flew out to Russia last night ahead of tomorrow’s Champions League clash with CSKA Moscow.

This decision reportedly came against club expectation and was out of the player’s desire to avoid aggravating the issue where temperatures will be as low as -6.

The Gazzetta dello Sport allege that Maicon’s extended exclusion from first-team duties is causing issue at the club.

Where medical staff are apparently pushing for the player to resolve the issue with surgery, the player is seen, with permission from the club, to have opted for a more natural recovery.

The Gazzetta report that this has become a point of contention with Rudi Garcia’s backroom staff and in particular with athletic trainer Paolo Rongoni.

Maicon and Rongoni are described as having had ‘several altercations’ with each other in recent times.
