Vincenzo Montella praised Fiorentina for their “determination” to beat Verona 2-1 at the Bentegodi.

“It was a tough game that started with problems, but we slowly got the hang of Verona and did well to make the most of our chances,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“Verona equalised in their typical style and we didn’t read that situation well, but we reacted with strength and went back in front. Hellas pushed hard towards the end and Toni was like a battering ram, but with determination – which I’d noticed in recent days – we held the victory.”

Giuseppe Rossi was in the stands, as he came straight from the airport after flying in from America.

“He’ll finally be with us for a while, he’s an exceptional lad who will bring a positive vibe to the team. He’s put on a bit of weight during his time away, but he’ll get in shape soon!”

Montella explained his decision to switch to a 3-5-2 system at the Bentegodi.

“We played the second half against Napoli like that too. It gives the team more security and confidence, but we can go either way.

“It was a victory of a great team, as we had to fight hard, but in previous years we have lost to smaller sides and must find more consistency. Fiorentina always played with a specific identity and took the initiative, so we haven’t had the results we deserved so far.

“I remain optimistic for the future of this season, as I know this squad is made up of great men as well as great players.”
