Juventus and Italy goalkeeper Gigi Buffon believes that club football currently is the priority over the national team.

The goalkeeper yesterday signed a contract extension with the Bianconeri until 2017, and he has now entered the debate surrounding the commitment of clubs to the Azzurri cause, prompted by Antonio Conte.

"For the national team, there are certain pre-arranged dates. The same applies to all national teams.

"The commitments of the club take priority," Buffon told Radio Capital.

Reflecting on the current state of Italian football, the veteran admitted there was a vacuum of young talent in the country and that they should take a leaf out of England's book on matchday regulation.

"I think it's simply a matter of cycles. We are in a different period to the past, where less talents entering our game," he added.

"The first few times I went to games with my son, there were explosions of paper bombs, which he was a little shocked by.

"Unfortunately these things always happen. We must follow the example of England, where the fans who don't behave well are punished harshly."
