Beppe Marotta reveals just how badly Juventus greeted Max Allegri and told Roma that controversy “only fires us up more.”

The Bianconeri are three points clear at the top of the table and the introduction of Allegri’s 4-3-2-1 system has so far proved very successful, but at the start fans were furious.

“When we first drove into the Vinovo training ground, the car containing President Agnelli, Allegri and I was kicked and spat at. These things are accepted, they are part of the sport,” general manager Marotta told Tuttosport.

“It was normal Allegri would find initial difficulties, but he has trained everywhere and knows how to deal with complicated moments.

“Everyone here wants Allegri to stay for as long as possible.”

The Scudetto race is against Roma and Marotta shrugged off the controversy over refereeing errors.

“Roma are certainly stronger than last season, but Juve are more confident of their capabilities too. We have both grown, even if we haven’t created any major gap with the rest of the League.

“Insinuations about Juve? These are clichés that the Bianconeri have learned to live with. Even when I was a child people said Juve stole, but the strength of the club is in its trophy cabinet.

“Both in Italy, where the club is improperly accused of stealing, and all over the world where that attitude never existed.

“The truth is that at this point the insinuations only fire us up more.”

The club that most stoked the fires of controversy was Inter, who were awarded the 2005-06 Scudetto during the Calciopoli scandal.

Their Coach at that time, Roberto Mancini, has now returned to replace Walter Mazzarri at San Siro.

“I did not expect Mazzarri to be fired right now,” confessed Marotta. “The timing of it surprised me, but we are not affected by it.”
