Balotelli had been diagnosed with a small hamstring problem, but it seems his condition deteriorated overnight.

Now Balotelli has been sent home to Liverpool for treatment on adductor strain and slight lumbago, as the medical staff do not want to risk him.

Juventus defender Ogbonna had already seemed in a more precarious position and, although tests excluded muscular lesions, he is still not fit to play either of these international games.

It's a pity for Balotelli, who had received his first call-up since the World Cup.

Leonardo Bonucci is suspended against Croatia, so Antonio Conte finds himself with a shortage of defenders.

The Coach called up an additional 14 players for the friendly with Albania, but they won’t join in with the rest of the squad until after the Croatia match.
