Former Inter hero Evaristo Beccalossi believes Walter Mazzarri’s dismissal was “inevitable” and trusts Roberto Mancini to deliver.

President Erick Thohir announced on Friday that he had sacked Mazzarri to bring back Mancini, who already had a winning spell on the bench from 2004 to 2008.

“When Mazzarri and the club began their collaboration, there was a precise project and objectives in place,” Beccalossi told GianlucaDiMarzio.com.

“Then along the way there were no longer the conditions to continue and I think it was inevitable they’d take this decision. Obviously, I am sorry for Mazzarri.

“Mancini was the right choice. Now they have to begin again, unify everyone in and around the club. I am happy they chose Mancini for this task, especially as he is a friend.

“I hope that, with him at the helm, they can find the right path again. Talking about long-term objectives now is meaningless. They have to recreate the right enthusiasm and motivation.”

Beccalossi wore the Inter jersey as a creative midfielder from 1978 to 1984, notching up 30 goals in 216 Serie A games.

He won the Scudetto, Coppa Italia, 1981 Mundialito and reached the European Cup semi-final.
