Nigel de Jong could miss Week 12’s Derby della Madonnina with Inter after picking up a hamstring injury with the Netherlands.

The midfielder was originally included in Guus Hiddink’s squad for upcoming games with Mexico and Latvia, but has been confirmed by the Netherlands Football Association’s website as having been replaced by Luuk de Jong.

The KNVB report that Milan’s De Jong is out of the squad due to a hamstring injury suffered and, whilst the extent of this injury remains unspecified, his availability for the inter-city clash with Inter in just under two weeks’ time is in serious doubt.

De Jong’s injury leaves a sizeable void in Milan’s midfield, although early reports suggest that Marco van Ginkel could be set for a run-out in his compatriot’s absence.

The 21-year-old has played just 30 minutes of Serie A football since joining the Rossoneri on a season-long loan from Chelsea, but he enjoyed a brief cameo during Milan’s 2-0 win over San Lorenzo last midweek.
