Parma captain Alessandro Lucarelli apologised to fans after an historic 7-0 defeat to Juventus. “We are ashamed.”

The Ducali had never previously lost in Serie A by more than a five-goal margin.

“There is little to analyse. The only thing we can do today is apologise for the terrible embarrassment,” said Lucarelli.

“It is the only think we can do to maintain some dignity. The only thing I feel ready to say, on behalf of the whole team, is that we apologise to our fans and to everyone, including the President, the general manager, the Coach and our family, because this is unacceptable.

“You can lose to Juventus, but not like this. We can only take the blame and leave with heads bowed. In my career I have never been so ashamed to leave the pitch as I was today. I’d never been humiliated like that.

“We lost confidence and when you lose intensity against a team like Juventus, they don’t let up. We conceded one, two, three goals without ever coming out of our own half.

“We knew it would be tough to come here and get a result, but today we didn’t have the right determination to spit blood to the end, to at least try to respond.”

After this hammering and with Parma losing nine of their 11 games this season, is Coach Roberto Donadoni at risk?

“The locker room was absolutely silent. We all put ourselves at risk, so the players take responsibility for this defeat.”
