Gian Piero Gasperini said Genoa’s 4-2 victory away to Udinese was “our best performance of the season.”

The Grifone are soaring in the Serie A table after three consecutive wins, having also stunned leaders Juventus” data-scaytid=”7″>Juventus 1-0 on Wednesday night.

“I think this was our best performance of the season,” Gasperini told Sky Sport Italia at the Stadio Friuli.

“Considering the way it started, conceding a goal within 30 seconds, we did well to turn things around and if anything could’ve finished it off earlier. I saw a real step forward today and great character.”

Alessandro Matri scored his fifth goal in the last four away games, confirming Genoa seem to do better on their travels.

“I made a bet with Matri before the campaign began, that he could get recalled for the Italy side, as I consider him one of the best centre-forwards in the country. With consistency he can do better and is only just starting to get into physical shape.

“We have had a tricky fixture list on home turf, including Napoli, Juventus and that derby stolen out from under our noses, but I think it’s a coincidence that we’ve done better away.

“I believe Marassi must get back to being our fortress so we can celebrate along with our fans.”

One reason could well be the state of the turf at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, which has never been good and is now disastrous after recent floods.

“I think it will be redone, as from what I heard the grass roots are not going all the way through to the foundations. It will cost a bit more money, but it’s set to be done soon.”
