World Cup winning Coach Marcello Lippi has retired to become technical director at Guangzhou Evergrande.

The tactician went out on a high, as today he won his third consecutive League title in China.

“I don’t want to coach any more, as I’m too old for it now. Guangzhou Evergrande will have a new Coach next season,” said the 66-year-old.

“I don’t want to coach any more, as I’m too old for it now. Guangzhou Evergrande will have a new Coach next season,” said the 66-year-old.

“I will continue to follow the staff in the role of technical director.”

Lippi will remain at the club, but as technical director with his old friend Fabio Cannavaro expected to take over as Coach.

His career highlight was without doubt winning the 2006 World Cup with Italy, but Lippi also had huge success at club level.

He won the Champions League, Intercontinental Cup, UEFA Super Cup, four editions of the Italian Super Cup, the Coppa Italia and five Scudetto titles – all with Juventus.

Lippi also won three Chinese Super League titles, a Chinese Cup and the Asian Champions League at the helm of Guangzhou Evergrande.
