Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero has attracted controversy for remarks made about the Inter President, while Evelina Christillin, who headed Turin’s successful 2006 Winter Olympic bid, was forced to apologise for derogatory comments about the Indonesian in an article for the Huffington Post.

For the Lega’s President, it is time to show Thohir a bit more respect.

“I think that the presence of an international entrepreneur like Erick Thohir is a good thing for Italian football,” Beretta has said today in a statement.

“He brings a combination of various administrative and managerial experiences.

“As for the rest, I’m convinced that Erick Thohir as both a business owner and a person deserves respect and consideration.

“We often look to England as a model, where foreign investors have helped to significantly strengthen the English Premier League.

“It would be a serious mistake to create a climate which discourages international investors who might be interested in our football.”
