Maurizio Sarri has called for a response from his Empoli players ahead of tomorrow’s Serie A clash with Sassuolo.

The new boys suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat to Cagliari over the weekend, and their Coach has outlined the many facets of the Tuscans’ play that must improve if they are to bounce back against the Neroverdi.

“Tomorrow I expect a team that will respond with a performance of character, regardless of the outcome, as it may depend on several factors,” Sarri has told a press conference.

“We knew from the start it would be a tough season, a year of sacrifice and suffering, and that a few games could go wrong.

“This happened on Saturday, but now everything will be transformed into positivity. I repeat that it will be long and difficult, but we must show that we are over Saturday.

“These lads are used to giving important reactions after difficult matches, and I expect this in the game tomorrow.

“Sassuolo is a team which has so many important players in attack. They are a tough team who believe in themselves and their style of play.

“As well as being a side which have new players, they are proven at this level at the same time.

“Tomorrow night, however, regardless of the opponent, I expect a team that is together, that will play at 100 per cent, keeping their passes short and moving the ball quickly. If we do that, we can do well.

“The applause of the fans after the game? We have to also use that [to our advantage]. It’s something which rarely happens.

“We have to give a strong sense of belonging, a sign that we are part of a special environment. This will give us a great desire to react.”
