Rafa Benitez said Napoli’s thrilling 6-2 victory over Verona was “a sign of what this team can do.”

Emil Hallfredsson had scored after 30 seconds for the visitors, but Marek Hamsik scored a brace and Gonzalo Higuain a hat-trick.

“I liked almost everything tonight, but clearly we can always improve,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“I think this match is a sign of what the team can do. Our defeat to Chievo was similar in the number of chances we created and how we controlled possession after an early goal.
“We know Hamsik’s great gift is coming in from the back and scoring regardless of the system, while Higuain could’ve had four tonight.”

The Coach had said this week that Higuain was “a hungry lion in a cage” after failing to score in Serie A all season.

“We let Higuain out of the cage tonight, so we can put him away again until Wednesday,” joked Benitez.

“The most important thing for me was the reaction and attitude of the team, from start to finish, as we never stopped looking for the goal.

“I still need to point out we have a great squad and all of those elements need to be used in Serie A and the Europa League.”

“This was the right time to let the players relax and concentrate on the game. I spoke to the media and so did director Riccardo Bigon.

“We who have the experience to deal with communication, we can deal better with the situation than the players, who are all much younger.”
