Arrigo Sacchi believes the current Bayern Munich team “would struggle” against his Grande Milan of the 1980s.

Pep Guardiola’s German side tore Roma apart 7-1 in the Champions League this week and became one of the favourites to lift the trophy.

“Bayern would’ve struggled against my Milan from 1989,” Sacchi told Radio Deejay.

“This Bayern played a pure three-man system because they did something that in Italy is unheard of, which is pressing at a high level. The teams in Europe are better at attacking than defending.

“Coaches are divided into three categories: those attached to the past, the ambitious ones without conviction and then the genius who has conviction and fanaticism.

“Guardiola is constantly in search of improvement. Mourinho is also a genius, but in a different way.”

Sacchi is impressed with the performance so far of Milan boss Pippo Inzaghi, making his first foray into senior management.

“Inzaghi has been able to transmit his enthusiasm, perfectionist tendencies and hunger to the players. Both Silvio and Barbara Berlusconi, plus Galliani, helped a great deal.

“This is a solid group and therefore doesn’t waste energy. Inzaghi is doing a great job.”
