Gigi Buffon is ready for a fiery atmosphere against Olympiacos and gave updates on his Juventus renewal talks.

The Champions League tie kicks off in Athens on Wednesday at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT).

“We haven’t had a European away win in a while,” confessed the goalkeeper in his Press conference after a 1-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid.

“We must try to send out an important and convincing signal, because we can finish in the top eight and have to prove it starting from tomorrow.

“Is this no longer the Juventus that won 7-0? More than anything it’s no longer the same Olympiacos. So many years have passed and there’s no point making comparisons.

“I can say our team has enormous potential that has perhaps not yet been expressed, but I hope we’ll see that emerging soon.

“Tomorrow’s game will be very difficult in a passionate atmosphere. Olympiacos will try to press us and invoke fear.

“The fans are passionate, but it is the players who go on to the field and decide the result. Olympiacos have excellent individuals and after last season’s Champions League campaign deserve respect.”

Juventus were criticised after the 1-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid for being too negative, so will they change their approach in Athens?

“According to some of the comments it seemed as if Juve had only defended in Madrid, which did not seem to be true being on the pitch,” insisted Buffon.

“I thought we dealt with the game using great character. We might not have created colossal scoring opportunities, but we had several favourable situations. In my view we showed real strength in that game.”

Buffon was also asked about his contract renewal talks with the Juventus directors.

“I have not renewed yet, but there are no problems either. There is a sense of unity with the staff and the President, we are talking about it and soon everything will be defined.

“As for the controversy around the Roma game, I already have only a vague recollection of what was said. There are other games now and our focus is only on those.”
