Hellas Verona have been handed a €50,000 fine and a one-game partial closure of their stadium following racist abuse aimed at Milan’s Sulley Muntari

For the ‘distinctly heard’ chants aimed at the midfielder during Sunday’s League game, described by the sporting authorities today as ‘expressive behaviour of discrimination on the grounds of race’, the Gialloblu have been punished.

It has been confirmed that the Butei will have January’s suspended sentence handed down for racist abuse aimed at Napoli’s Pablo Armero lifted, a €50,000 fine to pay and the Curva Sud closed for one round.

The club also picked up a €3,000 for insulting chants aimed in the direction of referee Paolo Valeri.

Meanwhile, Inter have been fined €30,000 after fans chanted discriminatory songs aimed at Napoli supporters, and shone a laser pen into the eyes of referee Daniele Orsato and Napoli goalkeeper Rafael.

Nerazzurri fans were found to have chanted ‘a song which is insulting for reasons of territorial origin’ in both the second and the 47th minute of the 2-2 draw.

The report also states that Inter supporters shone a laser pen at the referee and Napoli goalkeeper at the start of both the first and second half.

The governing body also confirmed suspensions for players dismissed during the weekends’ action, with Simone Padoin receiving a one game ban despite never having taken the field.

The Juventus midfielder was found to have, despite being warned ‘blatantly challenged, from the bench, the work of the referee and the behaviour of the opponents’.

Also receiving a one-game ban are Fabrizio Cacciatore of Sampdoria, Manuel Coppola of Cesena and Rafael Marquez of Verona, all of whom were dismissed after two bookable offences.
