Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini revealed how he nearly joined Roma, the Premier League and now wants to experience America.

The centre-back sat down with La Gazzetta dello Sport for a lengthy interview in which he confessed to several near misses in his career.

“I could’ve gone to the Premier League in 2007, which wouldn’t have been a bad thing. Quite simply, I had Juve in my destiny.

“If that hadn’t been the case, then I would’ve gone to Roma in 2004, seeing as the deal was all agreed.

“When I arrived at Juventus, Giuliano Giannichedda was like a big brother to me. I was afraid to even speak, but he taught me the balance you need in this world.

“He’d say ‘Enjoy it when you can, sacrifice at all times and learn to understand the moments you’re going through.’ He was so right.”

Chiellini still has time for a different experience and hinted at a future in the MLS, having turned 30 in August.

“I’d like to remain in the football world, but I certainly don’t want to become a Coach. It’s too stressful and you have to move around so much.

“I see retirement as a far away moment, but sooner or later I’m going to have to think about it. It seems more likely to be at 34-35 than 38.

“Hopefully I’ll hang up my boots after an experience in the USA, just to see what it’s like to live there.”
