According to Tuttomercatoweb, Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini spoke to the former Napoli Coach about taking on a role at the Renzo Barbera, but not to replace Giuseppe Iachini on the bench, as some rumours in recent weeks had speculated.

The Palermo patron instead offered the 69-year old, who spent five years with the club as a player, the position of sporting director, to replace current incumbent Franco Ceravolo, who is seen as on his way out.

After Francesco Guidolin also apparently turned down advances from Zamparini, Tuttomercatoweb reports that youth director Dario Baccin will instead be elevated to the position.

The departure of Ceravolo and the promotion of Baccin is expected to be confirmed in the coming days.
