Sebastian Giovinco said Italy “needed a figure like Antonio Conte” and discussed his Juventus future.

Giovinco came off the bench and hit the crossbar in tonight’s 2-1 victory over Azerbaijan, a Euro 2016 qualifier.

“I am happy with the performance, above all with the win, as that was the important thing,” the Atomic Ant told Rai Sport.

“If I am here it means I’ve done something important. I sent a signal this evening. I’ve already hit the woodwork twice this season with Juventus and Italy, so I hope they start going in!”

Giovinco struggled to get any playing time at Juve under Conte, but the Coach has consistently called on him for Italy.

“It is a bit strange for us, as we were accustomed to seeing him at Juventus, but I feel that the Nazionale needed a figure like Conte.

“He hasn’t changed at all from his Juve days.”

Giovinco has been linked with Arsenal, as his Juventus contract expires in June 2015 and he rarely features. Has he resigned himself to being a benchwarmer?

“I have certainly not given up on getting a start for Juventus. There are things to evaluate and at the end of the year I will consider whether or not to continue with Juve. I hope so!

“The season has just started, we’ve only played eight games, so we’ll see as time goes on. I hope to give my contribution.”
