Coach Giampiero Ventura said Torino “lost our nerve” and their lead against Napoli.

Fabio Quagliarella had put the Granata in front at the Stadio San Paolo, but Lorenzo Insigne and Jose Callejon turned it around for a 2-1 result.

“We started strong and for about 30 minutes we were in control, able to score more goals, but we got some clearances wrong and that prompted fear to set in. We are a team who do not create if we are not playing our football,” Ventura told Sky Sport Italia.

“Gillet rescued us with some great saves, but those situations seemed to scare the team and they retreated into their shells.

“We had been playing with great character on Napoli’s home turf, but with those errors – which didn’t turn into goals – we got frightened and started making terrible mistakes.

“I don’t see how we managed to concede the equaliser, as the defending was just not good enough. In the second half it wasn’t the same Torino, we were too passive and wasted some chances that could’ve changed the game.

“It’s a shame, as we were in control and in the lead, but we lost our nerve.”
