Francesco Totti has urged Roma fans not to get carried away just yet, whilst he reflects on a future after football, influential Coaches and being a captain.

The Giallorossi have begun the season strongly and have seen their captain come out this week to assert they are going to aim to win all that they can – the League, Champions League and Coppa Italia.

However, in talking to La Repubblica in an interview released today, a calmer stance has come from the 38-year-old.

“The problem is that we have not won anything yet,” Totti has reflected in his interview.

“We have already experienced some beautiful moments, but in the end what counts is the result.

“As they say, the horses are seen at the end of the race. Yet, this year could be the right one.”

Totti discussed a number of subjects, including his intentions once he finally does hang up his boots.

“Many after football do not know where to turn. I still enjoy football, as long as the passion remains an objective one.

“Will I sign on for another year? So they say, but until I sign…

“And a future as a Coach? Now I do not see that. They are too good, but I have seen people like me who have then started coaching and have changed.

“I rule it out but who knows, maybe after a final year of activity…

“The most influential Coach? The two that I have found it best with are Mazzone and Zeman. With Mazzone I grew up, I was young, and Zeman.

“If you do not find the right Coach it can ruin you – they wanted me to always play, and most did so, but Mazzone would not let me play. With me he was a mother hen.

“You know, many Coaches are people just passing through, they would rather not think about the individual.”

Totti was asked of his style of captaincy.

“I am one of few words, I speak when the time is right. It should not be other players to spur you on. If the temperament is not there then it means you are not ready.

“If a player misses a chance or a penalty then it is different, of course I will encourage them.”

This weekend will see Totti come up against Juventus captain and friend Gigi Buffon.

“He is one of the few friends I have in football. We grew up together from the Under-14s through to the victory at the World Cup.

“The only disappointment is in not having played together at club level, but there was a time when he came close to us. He is a nice person.”
