Zibi Boniek said Roma goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski was “a mere spectator” against Manchester City last night.

The Giallorossi earned a 1-1 draw at the Etihad, but Poland legend Boniek told TeleRadioStereo that “Roma dominated the match for 80 minutes.

“In the last 10 minutes there was a natural dip in fitness levels after a game played at a very high tempo.

“I was happy to see a Roma side with character, competitive in all areas against one of the strongest squads in Europe like Manchester City.

“I think Garcia has done a great job giving the team a European soul. In their Champions League ties, home or away, Roma can battle it out with anyone, perhaps even more so than Juventus.”

Francesco Totti made history as the oldest ever player to score in the Champions League, three days after his 38th birthday.

“Totti was Man of the Match. As soon as he started his run towards the box, I knew he’d score. Goal aside, he was always at the centre of the action and with Pjanic, Keita and Nainggolan kept quality possession.

“I was surprised by Yanga-Mbiwa and the defence that was never apprehensive, despite missing De Sanctis in goal.

“Skorupski showed he is a goalkeeper who has good quality, although he was a mere spectator for long periods of the game. The few times he was called upon, he did very well.”
