The FIGC and Lega Serie A called for “immediate confrontation” with the Government after new laws on security in stadiums.

This week the Government approved an amendment that forces clubs to pay for extra police manpower on match days and allows new equipment including tasers.

“We need an immediate confrontation with the Government and local authorities to discuss the ramifications,” warned the Federation.

“The football world is well aware of the reasons and requirements of the police, who we have been working with for some time, but we require an urgent discussion to shake away pointless demagoguery.

“We need to clarify the available resources and who is in charge of what area, also analysing carefully all the income from football matches both from clubs, but also earned by betting companies and others who benefit from the sport.

“We are convinced that with a preventative and deep discussion, along with the CONI, we can find joint solutions.”

Lega Serie A President Maurizio Beretta complained this added cost would only further push clubs towards bankruptcy, especially at a time when the sport and the Italian financial system is already in crisis.
