Empoli assistant manager Francesco Calzona stood in for the suspended Maurizio Sarri against Chievo. “We want our first win.”

The Tuscans were held to a 1-1 draw at the Stadio Bentegodi this afternoon, as Massimo Maccarone came off the bench and set up the goal for Manuel Pucciarelli.

“Maccarone immediately settled into the game and we really needed his power in attack,” Calzona told Rai Sport.

“The decision was to introduce him to give us more aerial threat too. He provided the assist for Pucciarelli, so it worked.

“The objective this season is to secure our Serie A safety, then if something more arrives we’ll be even happier.

“We are bottom of the table right now because we haven’t got as many points as we deserved to. We want our first win.”
