Lazio defender Santiago Gentiletti required a “cruciate ligament transplant” on his knee, said medics.

“The operation was recently completed,” Doctor Lovati told Lazio Style Radio this afternoon.

“The cruciate ligament was completely broken, so we decided to perform a transplant. It went very well, even though the predicted time off the field remains around six months.

“From tomorrow or the day after he will begin rehabilitation. Mentality and character will make a difference and his participation is a fundamental component in his recovery.

“We must not try to rush this process, though. He is calm and was much more agitated when he suffered a head injury a few weeks ago.

“He knew that the only way to resolve the problem was with an operation. He is determined and wants to recover.”
