Walter Mazzarri has praised Mauro Icardi and Mateo Kovacic ahead of his side’s clash with Atalanta at the Giuseppe Meazza.

Speaking at today’s pre-match Press conference, the Nerazzurro Coach singled out the performances of 21-year old Icardi and 20-year-old Kovavic from the start of this season.

“My staff and I have worked very hard with Kovacic, and I always believed he would make a step-up,” Mazzarri has explained.

“He has improved a lot, tactically and technically. He moves well with and without the ball, and is calm in front of goal.

“This is the Kovacic we always expected, but at his age and with the quality he has there is still room for huge improvements.

“Icardi? He is training very well this year. He is young, he is hungry and he runs like a madman.”

Mazzarri also turned his attention to Wednesday’s opponents Atalanta, and insisted his Inter side will always go for a win, regardless of opposition.

“I’ve studied them, and they deserved more against Fiorentina. Every team that plays Inter raises their game that little bit more, so we have to play well to get the better of them.

“It’s better to try to win two games, and end up winning one and losing one, than to draw both. Of course defeat is never good, but sometimes when you’re starting a new cycle you have to take risks.”
