Luciano Spalletti trusts Roma and Inter can trouble Juventus, while Milan got rid of “cumbersome” Mario Balotelli.

“This season Juve will have real competition for the Scudetto,” the ex-Zenit Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“Roma maintained their basic structure and added in some great individuals, while Inter have a very good Coach and a fine squad.

“Over the summer Milan removed a few figures who were of a top level, but also too cumbersome, so they could get back to working on the team spirit. They dug into some uncomfortable positions.”

The reference to Balotelli was hardly disguised and so Spalletti joins several other Coaches in praising the Rossoneri for selling SuperMario to Liverpool.

“As for Fiorentina, I can guarantee Montella and the club will provide us with a balanced League.”

The Champions League and Europa League resume this week and Spalletti commented on what Serie A sides could do to improve their co-efficient.

“There are many organised clubs in the Champions League. Abroad they have shown that they are better than us at keeping calm and experiencing everything with enjoyment.

“Italians must learn how to lose and that way bring families back to the stadium. I think the Champions League favourites are the usual suspects: Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Barcelona.
“Atletico Madrid did well to get into that group last season, as Cholo Simeone did a great job.”
