Eugenio Corini had been “confident” Chievo would do well at Napoli and thanked Francesco Bardi for the win.

The Flying Donkeys drew 1-1 at the San Paolo last season, but did even better today with a 1-0 victory after Bardi saved Gonzalo Higuain’s penalty.

“When a Coach prepares for a game, he is always confident of winning it,” Corini told Sky Sport Italia.

“I saw my lads in good physical shape and had faith we’d put in a good performance. When you face teams with this much talent, you need the strength to be dangerous on the counter-attack.

“We are under construction with many new arrivals, including the Italy Under-21 internationals Bardi and Biraghi. I saw positive signs and Bardi has given a sense of security to the team.

“Maxi Lopez has extraordinary qualities and I wanted to work with him so I can see him return to being a champion. He can score double figures this season.”
