Juan Manuel Iturbe explained why he chose Roma, meeting Francesco Totti and who takes the free kicks.

The summer signing from Hellas Verona sat down with Roma TV to discuss his first couple of months at the club.

“I chose Roma because the team had done great things, the club wanted me more than anyone else and Rudi Garcia spoke to my agent a great deal. I really liked that,” said Iturbe.

“The fans I meet in the city have a lot of faith in me and realise I need to slowly learn the movements and tactics. I am calm and the people are helping me.

“The Curva Sud is very passionate and it’s important to feel them with us. Beating Fiorentina in the first game of the season was a great start.

Juventus are strong, while Inter and Milan have done well on the market, so this won’t be an easy season for anybody.”

Iturbe revealed he had a particular soft spot for Roma captain Totti and immediately asked for a photograph with him.

“We used to watch him on TV when Roma played. You can be a champion, but you also have to be a great person and Totti is, because he helps all his teammates.”

The Argentine’s arrival means there are now several free kick specialists at the club, so how do they decide who takes them?

“If it’s on the right, then me. If it’s on the left, I won’t even go there. Free kicks are my specialty and the best feeling is to score from a free kick.

“The best goal I ever scored was a free kick against Lazio.”
