Barcelona all-round midfielder Javier Mascherano has revealed that he indeed could have signed with Napoli this summer.
The Argentina international was heavily linked with interest from his former mentor at Liverpool Rafael Benitez, but a move to the San Paolo did not materialise and he has since renewed his contract at the Camp Nou.
Even so, the 30-year-old has explained that there was a moment when Napoli could have been his future.

Even so, the 30-year-old has explained that there was a moment when Napoli could have been his future.
“The opportunity to join Napoli was there,” Mascherano has told today’s edition of Il Mattino.
“I have a good relationship with Rafa, but he knows that I could not come and how things have turned out.
“I will finish off my career in Spain and I am very happy.”
